Sisters
an International Dark Sky Community
Join Starshine, Explore Sisters, and the Sisters Astronomy Club to marvel at our incredible universe in the gorgeous and convienent setting of downtown Sisters, Oregon! Thanks to Explore Sisters, you attend for free! You'll take in the brilliance of Central Oregon’s night sky while, locating constellations, observing visible planets, the moon, and other celestial objects, and listening to ancient stories about the stars.
Dark Sky Parties begin about a half hour after sunset. Stay after the one-hour tour to get a glimpse into the deep sky through a telescope that magnifies the naked eye by 350. Each group receives a sky map, specialized to the month of viewing and binoculars to borrow.
If you've been to one of our Dark Sky Parties, this year we are offering something new! The Party on the Full Moon focuses on our nearest celestial neighbor, our Moon. You'll hear an ancient story with the Moon as a main character, and learn why our Moon is so critical to life on our planet. The Summer Solstice and Equinox Parties put a focus on the solstice/equinox with a special ancient story and facts about these pivotal nights of the year. Join us during the Perseids Meteor Shower to learn about this special annual event, and see lots of shooting stars!
